So here's my post about the first 4 days of my Europe trip, which were spent in London! To keep my blog posts a little neater I've decided to try lj-cut for Blogger. Landed in Paris an hour ahead of schedule...
P.S. This lj-cut thing is annoying me like crazy because somehow only one post appears on the main page now. So you have to click Older Posts to see previous ones zzz.
at 5.30am with it being 9 degrees outside. I tried Air France this time, which wasn't very different except that it was full of French people.
I was running late for my boarding but tons of French people were still slowly streaming in, and even when they made last calls I saw some still happily clicking away on Facebook. When I took Singapore Airlines previously I would literally be the last person to come on.
When I got on the plane the stewards/stewardesses did those diplomatic bilingual greetings.
"Good Evening. Bonsoir."
I only nodded and smiled. Guess I look more Chinese than French, because the steward eventually subsequently settled on English with me.
There were quite a lot of movies I could watch on the flight like Ghost Writer (which I've been meaning to catch), but I never could watch anything but comedies if it's not in a cinema so I settled on some Disney cartoon called Brother Bear (made me cry), and watching The Incredibles for like the 5th time.
Landed at Paris Charles De Gaulle airport and waited for my friends Carmen and Eunice to arrive (they're cousins) because they came on a later flight. Disappointed to find neither free wireless nor sockets at the airport.

McDonalds! Literally double the price here :o
So anyway from the airport we took a train to the Paris train station (airport's far from the city). From that station we took the Eurostar to London. Reached London and hopped on the metro to my friends' aunt's house which is just beside the Wimbledon!
Haha at their uniforms! I'm mean it looks even worse than here, because theirs are like full uniforms with blazers and ties and all.
Headed to Oxford Street, which is where all the shops are!
Eunice, Carmen and Laura. They're all cousins, and Laura is half French half Singaporean too, but living in London.
They have self checkout counters at supermarkets! Like you scan the item yourself and pay at the machine.
Day 2
I know slippers = not cool but it's a lot of walking!
They have tons of roadside stalls and you just buy whatever you want, then sit at these tables along the river.
Starbucks! They have wayyyy less options both in London and Paris as compared to Singapore but I don't really care because I take plain boring Mocha Frap anyway. (And I think Starbucks is overrated. It's good but going "Starbucks is the staple of mankind" err... haha).
Sophie: "If you saw me wearing this in town, would you think I'm weird?"
Carmen: "Yes"
I bought the white flower garland thing anyway (3 pounds). 2 people later on asked me where I got it from!
I think this was in the H&M changing rooms. By the way the H&M staff are SUCH A PAIN. You know how in Singapore when you go to the changing room the staff take the clothes off the hangers for you?
At H&M they don't. Okay no biggie. The issue is when you come out of the changing rooms without the hangers, they are BLOODY RUDE about it?! Sometimes you really do end up with hanger-less clothes, or even if you have the hangers but didn't hang the clothes back on properly, they give you shit for it?
They actually tell you to go back and get the hangers, roll their eyes, say "yeah we'll do it for you" super sarcastically or go like "didn't she hear me?" when you walk away (Carmen lol).
Like wtf? Isn't it your JOB to do it?! If not why would we even need you to be there if all you do is take back the clothes nicely hung on for you?
And okay maybe they have some stupid store policy that you should hang your stuff back yourself. Whatever. Thing is, the staff shouldn't be so rude? I don't freaking owe them anything?
Bumped into my friend in London! What are the odds right?!
In London EVERYONE stands on the right.
HAHAHA whut?! Let other people sit on your lap?
Visited Brick Lane, which is like a mini Banglatown (this is not said in a racist manner, you'll see why!) and is also supposed to have lots of vintage stores.
The littlest cousin, who's called Estelle!
AHA. Banglacity!
Giant expensive store specialising in everything and anything to do with afternoon tea haha.
Haha that's Estelle trying on my Aldo shoes! I only bought them because they were on sale, I almost never wear heels.
And in Carmen's heels.
That's Wimbledon!
I was actually going to do my entire London trip in one post but it's so long so I'll do the 4th day another time.
To recap...
Day 1: Landed in Paris, took a train to London
Day 2-4: London!
Day 5: Left London and took a train to Brussels
Day 6: Brussels!
Day 7: Left Brussels and took a train to Paris
Day 8-11: Paris!
Day 12: My friends Carmen and Eunice leave to go back to Singapore and I move from the hotel to my sister's apartment in Paris instead.
I've to babysit my nephew, bye!
