Swatch x Zouk

Thursday, October 27, 2011
Went for the Swatch launch at Zouk a while back! (this is way overdue)
I own a Swatch watch (I find they're good for casual days/school) but we went primarily because the launch of their newest watches involved tie-ups with vinyl artists, which Alaric is into.

And it turned out really lucky because one of Alaric's favourite artists (Joe Ledbetter) was actually there at the launch! The last time Joe came to Singapore, Alaric went down to the convention to get sketches etc, so this was a really lucky encounter!

Photobucket
Haha Alaric saying hi to Joe, who remembers him from the previous time they met (the vinyl toy scene in Singapore isn't huge lol).

Photobucket

Photobucket
Some of the watches in the background! I like Joe's (the big one behind him) the most really; the bunny face is cute.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Some people in the audience took part in a Swatch-face designing contest! I felt that the pink zig-zag one should have won (far left).
(The winner was the 3rd girl from the left).

Photobucket

Photobucket
With Geck Geck! Zouk served small amuse-bouches and free flow of drinks, even wine! (Not that I like wine, despite being half French).

Photobucket
Got a sketch from Joe too, based on one of the toys Alaric has bought from him.

Yutakis, Miyake and Eric finally reached Zouk but by then the whole event was totally over so they brought us to Play, where Kay Kay met us.

Play is a gay/lesbian club at Tanjong Pagar and it was my first time so it was a really interesting experience! Hahaha it's so odd to see guys preying on other guys instead of girls. I wonder what kind of pick-up lines they use.

Photobucket
Miyake and Yutakis; act shy only...

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Haha couldn't decide between top tucked in or tucked out. It was basically flapping around too much when tucked out.

Oh yes... I have a long graze on my leg. Should I tell you guys how I got it? Ok fine I shall.

Earlier on at Zouk I was going down one of the stairs with Geck Geck and Alaric, when I FELL DOWN. (100% sober, did not even drink so yeah... just 100% clumsy hahaha)

Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

The worst part is, that naturally by instinct I stuck my hands out and grabbed the first thing I hit, which... was one of the Swatch display cases.

WHICH WAS BESIDE ANOTHER CASE. AND ANOTHER. AND ANOTHER.

Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

You get the gist. So the whole row tumbled like dominoes, but thank goodness someone was at the other end and caught it so everything re-stabilised itself.

LOLOL you can be laughing in glee at my misfortune now if you're one of those sour people... but fret not because I simply found it hilarious hahahaha *thick-skinned*.

Tuzki Bunny Emoticon

Anyway the graze is totally still on my leg (the event was on 1st Oct) so it was actually quite a bad fall! Hahahahaha. It's going away already though, so all's good!

Photobucket
Eric and Geck Geck!

Photobucket
Kay Kay and Miyake.

Photobucket

Hahaha cute scene. Eric, Kay Kay, Miyake in front of Yutakis and Geck Geck, chatting with a guy that struck up a conversation with her. Yes he is gay hahaha.

Anti-AVA culling petition
Let's Adopt Global Vote -> you can vote once every day!

I have 4500 blog readers. Yet only 700 of you bothered to sign the petition, and that's already assuming they all 100% come from my blog. I mean seriously, what does it cost you?! This isn't some contest I'm taking part in where I benefit and you can't stand to see that.

You can bother to join blogshop newsletters, stalk people for hours on Facebook/blogs, send rude and demanding emails to blogshops chasing for your item, leave anonymous hate comments on various platforms, leave me one liner Formspring questions to which you expect me to reply with some kind of comprehensive write-up... I write a long blog post and you can't even be bothered to take 30 seconds of your time to try and help.

...

Well on to other stuff,

Ok below are a succession of thick-skinned camwhore photos... I was meant to meet Wendy and Qiuting to view these bunnies that Wendy wanted to use in her shoot for her new blogskin (see below).

The bunnies are from a home breeder (if you die die wanna buy a pet, home breeders are usually more ethical than pet shops - who generally get their "merchandise" from animal mills) and I reached early. Wendy and Qiuting were both quite late while the owner wasn't home yet so I sat alone on the curb like a suspicious loser hahaha.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Random picture of the sky because I'm usually not out at this hour much... (even if I'm awake I'm at home sloth-ing it out)

These photos were taken way back in July, even before my birthday. Now that I'm halfway through my semester, I've seen A LOT more sun -_- I have school every day at an early hour FML.

Photobucket
LOLOLOL ACT OR NOT? Hahahaha.
(I'm sorry if you're not local... but I think you can infer the context!)

Photobucket

Photobucket
Random picture of a neighbourhood cat. Sadly it's not a conventional "cute" cat so it's going to pale rather terribly in comparison to these...

BUNNIES!

Photobucket
I love the brown one! It's an adult rabbit, but it's so much lovelier than the babies! I have pictures in my BB of it lying quietly in my lap with its paws cutely perched. So endearing!

If I ever adopted a rabbit I'd like a brown/grey one :)

And here's one of the pictures Wendy took with the bunny above for her blogskin!
Photobucket
You have to say that the picture turned out really good! And the rabbit is so sweet! Maximum ♥

Wendy took the shots in the owner's garden as well! It was just coincidental that she had a picturesque setting so they wouldn't have to worry about transporting the bunnies around.

Photobucket
Dirty orange-y fur because the bunnies all get to play in the garden! See, this is ethical treatment of your animals, even if they're for sale.

The owners are students so they're doing it more as a hobby/interest rather than profit. Generally any breeder that is really profit-oriented... is naturally likely to be unethical towards the animals as well.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Hahaha! Cute ruffled fur!

Photobucket
*melt*

Photobucket

Photobucket
^_^ The grey one on the right was quite weak though... so it kept getting bullied by the other bunnies in the competition for mommy's milk!

Photobucket

Photobucket
AWW!

I hope I haven't instigated anyone to run out and buy a bunny now... Please remember that they're only bunnies for 3 months at most, before they attain the size of a full-grown rabbit.

Rabbits live up to 12 years, so you're looking at the same level of commitment as with a dog/cat. I think many people seem to forget this and just view rabbits as some kind of extension of hamsters; just a slightly bigger one, so they're all trigger happy in buying one.

But NO. Dwarf hamsters live 2 years, while rabbits live 12 years. 12 years ok. And even with hamsters there are 500 of them abandoned every year >:(

And please ADOPT:
House Rabbit Society Singapore
SPCA

Actually I feel that rabbits are rather pitiful...
1) They are eaten as normal dishes
2) A lot of cosmetic/drug testing is done on rabbits
3) They have no substantial defence mechanism; no claws/teeth/body strength
4) They cannot cry/shriek. They can make small noises, but nothing like a dog's bark/growl.

Yet they are also commonly abused because it's much harder to detect as compared to dogs or cats.

Many rabbits spend their whole life in a cage (extension of hamsters remember?) despite actually being very social animals (you can toilet train a rabbit).
Furthermore, cages with grilled floors are very, very bad for them but many people fail to realise that it cuts into their paws.

In July 9 rabbits were found abandoned, all in a terrible state & some even with missing ears. How can anyone be so cruel?! - story

Photobucket
Random picture of Wendy, Qiuting and I at the H&M opening! Came across it while going through Wendy's tumblr to find the picture of her with the bunny. Just to end this post on a less sombre note.

*Warning* Some disturbing images to follow.

Photobucket

Now that I've got your attention... The images above are from the SPCA inspector's report. In 4 months alone, he attended to 300+ cases of animal abuse (source). The things you see on Stomp, Twitter, Facebook... those are just the tip of the iceberg. And yes, these are all happening in our sunny little Singapore, not somewhere far away where you can pretend that you can't do anything (also not true).

A blog reader emailed me about two causes she's working on.
Please do take the time to read her posts:

Photobucket
#1 AVA Culling

Photobucket
#2 RWS Dolphins

#1. AVA Culling
I'd like to draw your attention to the fact that despite the increase in animal abuse cases in Singapore (1000 cases last year - source), the AVA, the leading authority on animals in Singapore, spends its time culling harmless stray dogs instead of focusing on animal abuse and educating the public.

How this is done:
1) It is outsourced to an external company, a "pest" exterminator of sorts. They receive $250 per dog killed. Ironically $250/dog could go a long way if given to animal shelters instead.

2) These weak, thin, stray dogs are harmless; many feeders & normal passers-by have commented that in fact the dogs are very shy and scared of humans (clearly they have every reason to be). They only, ever respond aggressively when provoked, and that is in defense.

3) The dog-catchers use ropes, metal wires, mattress coils... to loop around the dog's neck and drag it across distances before throwing it into a truck, all while it is being strangled.

This sudden culling is in response to a letter from just one man, saying stray dogs should be shot on sight.

Dear AVA, you claim to be against animal mistreatment. Yet you take months to process cases of animal abuse reported to you by the SPCA (in many cases the animal is still with the abusive owner; the SPCA has no authority) and secondly, this is how you treat strays?! Is this considered humane?!

Please SIGN THE PETITION that the young girl has started.
-> it requires no account-creating, all you need to do is enter your details
(you do not need to fill in your full address; 100% anonymous)

#2 RWS Dolphins
Resort World Singapore has had 27 dolphins captured to be trained as entertainment for visitors. These dolphins were originally free, and now they've been imprisoned for the sake of our short, 15 minute-enjoyment.

2 dolphins have already died.

There has been massive international revolt against RWS, yet they blatantly ignore issues raised by activists and normal citizens alike. They go so far as to claim that "dolphins enjoy performing for humans" - this is the most insulting piece of bullshit I've heard.

More info: Facebook Save the World's Saddest Dolphins

On to the second thing I need your help with.
Please bear with me! :(

Below are 2 Facebook accounts I like to follow for their updates on rehoming abandoned animals:
Save Our Street Dogs (Singapore)
Let's Adopt Global (obviously... global. Lol.)
They even have their own Wiki page! It's quite cool; the co-founder uses a V for Vendetta reference as his name (which sadly, I don't understand because I didn't like the movie).

I find it really inspiring to see all these people that band together and so willingly spend time and money to give these animals a chance, animals that no one else would have cared about.

Some animals that LA (Let's Adopt) rehomes are really what most would call "gone cases".

Photobucket
Stray dogs with broken/paralysed back legs.

Photobucket
This poor dog was used by a man in Bulgaria as bait for his fighting dog. The whole leg was ripped off, and the dog was left tied to a box.

Photobucket
Extreme neglect.

Malnourished dogs can go blind. These forms of neglect occur in Singapore too, in many of the puppy mills which operate openly because the authorities just don't care. These are outright forms of abuse that made the news, but still nothing has improved.
Read my previous post on it HERE.

So anyway, people may say groups like LA are wasting their time. But you'd be surprised at the number of loving, and selfless people that are fully willing to take a "not-so-perfect" dog home.

This is the same dog, just after a short while with some care:
Photobucket

LA Global is currently taking part in a Reader's Digest contest. The winner will have his story published, and will win 25 000 USD! 100% of this money will go to their rehoming efforts.

Photobucket
The story featured here is just one of so many cases of neglect and abuse that they are working on. Frankly the images I put up above... aren't even that horrific compared to some others I've seen.

PLEASE VOTE. All it takes is just one click! No "liking" of page needed, no signing up, nothing!
(But you have to be logged into FB, however don't worry, it's not posted to your profile)

Once again, here are the two links:
Anti-AVA culling petition

I BESEECH YOU TO CLICK. I BEG YOU :'(

So many abuse cases... people see it, take pictures and... upload it to STOMP. [e.g. X, X, X], instead of calling the SPCA! If you can't/don't want to intervene, at least report it?!

"The maximum penalty for animal cruelty is a fine of $10,000 and a jail term of one year. In recent cases, two people were jailed two and six weeks respectively on the charge of animal cruelty."

TWO WEEKS. Blatant torture, and you get two weeks?! Do you know that simply being the one to splash paint/spray O$P$ (the cronies of loansharks), can get you 12 strokes of the cane? (source) Who did they harm? The WALL?!

Photobucket
(Yes it's from 9gag. They post serious stuff sometimes).

Anti-AVA culling petition
Let's Adopt Global Vote -> you can vote once every day!

You may say that this hardly helps, the petition might not do anything, that they might not win, that we still eat animals etc... Yes, we have a long way to go. But what does it cost you to JUST CLICK?

I know each and every single one of you can spend hours clicking through Facebook or online shops... This takes less than a minute. Please help!

Me and my 5 fake Facebook accounts can't do it alone :'(
(They're actually created by Alaric, we use them from Farmville/Sims Social hahaha).

Thank you :') I will try not to spam too much animal rights stuff :')

P.S. Leaving your dog in your car is also animal abuse.
P.P.S. Never use grill flooring for cages.

Fringe Up

Photobucket

Ignore my sunglasses... I know they're irrelevant but I got tired of smiling haha.

Photobucket
This is to show how sheer the piece is - this is the photo taken under bright ring light, worn with a yellow bra. So yeah it's actually not that sheer IRL, especially if worn with a nude/black bra (but don't forget the back is bareback).

Photobucket
Oh yeah so here's the plain grey tank top! Randomly decided to tie the orange sash and thought it looked ok. Paired to school the next day with a rainbow cardigan.

Photobucket
Ignore the bra thanks (from H&M). I like H&M bras. Not too expensive, not too fancy... I wear plain yellow/nude/black strapless bras 95% of the time.

Pinned up my fringe to Zouk the other day because I was lazy to wash my hair... Today in tutorial I glanced at a Muslim classmate and thought about how I'd wash my hair a lot less if I wore a tudung hahahaha.

Horrid shot of me sneezing/coughing/stunned by whatever Preeti is saying.

The mesh part is actually not obvious in the dark but here you can see it more clearly! The waist area also has a strip of mesh.

Photobucket
Wore this pretty printed dress to school yesterday.

Photobucket
I have quite a lot of these printed dresses because they're easy to wear; quite casual but still girly!

Okay gonna go take an afternoon nap... Tata!
