Samantha Vega at Zouk

Thursday, March 31, 2011
Doing a quick post on the launch... party? of Samantha Vega at Zouk last Saturday! Most of the pictures are ripped from Qiuting's blog because I never bother taking out my camera when I'm out with her haha.

Photobucket
Samantha Vega is now open at Isetan Orchard, in the basement!

Obviously Samantha Thavasa (located at Ion) and Samantha Vega are girly brands, so I always have in mind to wear nude or pink colours and lots of girls stuff.

Photobucket
Accessories on my left hand. The heart ring (it can be opened to put a photo inside!) and the cute colourful duck bracelet are both from Quite Qwerty. This Etsy store has lots of unique items, go see!

Since the event was at Zouk, we ate at one of the coffeeshops in the HDB opposite which we heard had renowned Hokkien Mee!
Photobucket
Qiuting and I went to Xiaxue's house first (mother far omg it's like if you roll a little too far out of bed you might topple right out of Singapore) so she saw we were both wearing nude/pinkish and picked a matching nude dress!
(Prepare for lots more boobage shots).

Photobucket
HAHAHAHA when Alaric saw this he laughed. Check out the false eyelashes Qiuting photoshopped unto me!

Alaric is super supportive of Qiuting lor... he "liked" her Budget Barbie Facebook page (obviously I did too) and when she was on Hot Seat he spammed her with so many questions that the system banned him for 10 minutes hahahaha.

Photobucket
Bunny? Too bad Qiuting didn't take a picture of her removing her Invisalign braces. I can never NOT stare when someone does that haha.

Photobucket
Pork chop in pumpkin sauce! It's really good!

Photobucket
We were ushered up to the Members area at Zouk Main, which smelt really weird :S time for them to reupholster again. Kind of sad how they have to keep doing it because of people puking haha.

Photobucket

Photobucket
The polaroid Qiuting decorated. Wahlewz we just ate and she can think of nothing better than to stick so a whole bunch of food on it!

Here's mine ^^:
Photobucket

The rest left around 10pm (with one very red Qiuting, despite the fact that she had vair vair vair little to drink - to think I wanted to buy her drinks - fail!) and I was stuck waiting at Zouk for Alaric to reach.

Went to spy on Sherry chopping people for entry but she was so busy so we couldn't talk. Just stood there and watched her like some creepy stalker o.O major uncool to be loitering around alone at Zouk for 30 minutes haha.

Finally Alaric picked me up and we headed to Cineleisure for a movie...

Photobucket
Another picture of my duckie bracelet! I kind of like these kind of cutesy bracelets, like I how I have this Pacman one and had to stop myself from buying a gummy bear version! I mean the charms look a little like those we used to have on our jellyish shoes when we were 5 years old.

Photobucket
This is me sitting at... Old Town Coffee or whatever it's called? Dress from Clothes & People. Anyway the food was just alright, no idea why it's so insanely crowded.

Movies I've watched recently:
World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles - good!
Lincoln Lawyer - meh... quite interesting but plot's unrealistic/unexplained (Matthew McConaughey's still hot though)
Sucker Punch - MAJOR MEHHHHH!

Sucker Punch... I mean seriously the moment it opened - with this blonde girl in pigtails and kiddy pyjamas 2 sizes too small; supposedly crying but wearing the thickest and longest false eyelashes I've ever seen (not to mention 3 tonnes of eye makeup)... I knew it was going to be bad.

The most interesting was probably thinking to myself how desperate for roles Vanessa Hudgens must be (I don't like her cos she has/had Zac Efron) because in this show she's not even a substantial supporting actress. Plus she d.i..e...s (you looked, not my fault).

I have to design a poster NOW to discourage athletes from doping. Oh woe is me, the fate of the Olympics lie on my severely un-muscled shoulders (doctor said so). No not really, it's just for my Drugs and Society module. Kbai!

DID YA SPOT ME IN THE NEWSPAPER TODAY?

Photobucket
I didn't know I was in it till my friend told me! Haha I doubt you guys would recognise the top I'm wearing, but it's mine and I actually wear it pretty often.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Okay lah I take pity on Errol because his face is upside down, so I've rotated it for your admiration. And anyway yes I actually do know Errol! Some of my older readers might remember him being on my blog a few times because we're friends in NUS.
We both happen to be from the same agency and it was a weird coincidence that we got the same job (I was originally told that it would be a hot Caucasian model but that morphed into Errol; FML).

Photobucket
Wearing a tunic/dress from Apparel Affair today! For me it's definitely a tunic but for some girls maybe it can be a dress (:

Photobucket
Stickers I stuck on the back of my iTouch casing. These stupid stickers cost a bomb! They're like $10 for a set (of many sheets, but still). But so cute!

Photobucket
Newly painted nails (I got some nail polish on my Blackberry + Mac and had to use a cotton bud soaked in remover to get it off -_-) and one of my newest rings.

Photobucket
And here's my newest bracelet! Got it online from USA when Alaric was buying his new Mcqueen/Puma sneakers.

Photobucket
Brought my hamster, Hamlet, out to visit my grandma the other day! (Not as if my grandma can even still see the hamster, but that's another thing altogether).

Photobucket
The water bottle is on the floor so that it doesn't swing around while the car moves and drip water everywhere.

And if you ever considered that hamster might be able to get motion sickness:
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
HAHAHA SO CUTE! I mean my hamster is literally stretched out in a "bleugh" position. I really can't stop staring at how she's flopped down on the pellets haha.

P.S. I tried to minimise disturbance to her cage by holding it, but I can't totally prevent movement lah.

A whole bunch of random updates,

Ate at Hatched the other day (located at Bukit Timah near CCAB), which coincidentally is owned by Alaric's friend's brother.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Hatched actually serves breakfast/brunch all day, so I got an egg's benedict for dinner! It comes with bacon, ham, a grilled bun, salad and mashed potatoes. Yummy!
Alaric got a steak (they serve some normal dishes too) and it was good as well!

Photobucket
Ginormous tree in the carpark behind Hatched.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Pink flats from Bangkok's Suan Lum Night Market, got these ages ago but haven't worn them much because they still give me blisters.

Photobucket

Photobucket
The cardigan I've been wearing quite a lot lately, which I've actually dubbed the MILF cardigan. Kind of looks like it no? It looks like the cardigans a mom in... Cougar Town or Desperate Housewives wears while standing at the door waving her kids off as they go to school, and 3 hours later she screws the milkman.

Photobucket
My rainbow-heart ASOS sunnies!
And Coca-Cola sweets in my mouth. I actually preferred this other brand (the one with sugar on it - Haribo I think) but the maxi pack came in individual wrappers which wastes tons of plastic ): so I got the non-sugar, non-individually wrapped maxi set.

Photobucket
Finally got to try the special xiao long baos from Paradise Dynasty! (Ion, level 4)

white: Original
black: Black Truffle
pink: Szechuan
green: Ginseng
orange: Cheese
yellow: Crab Roe
grey: Garlic
off-white: Foie Gras

(You're supposed to follow a special order when you try them, which we did, but I can't remember what it is now).

To be honest they weren't fantastic... I didn't try the Ginseng at all because I hate Ginseng and the smell was so strong. Szechuan was surprisingly spicy. The best was probably Cheese or Foie Gras.

Their Original xiao long baos, dumplings etc are really, really good though! Like... better than Crystal Jade's I think?

Photobucket

Photobucket
I found the decor a little strange. The whole place is a bit dim, and it reminds me of those olden-day opium parlours.
The Chinese used to go these special parlours and lie on beds to smoke opium, and I imagine the decor to be something like the above - dim and oriental.

Photobucket
The colourful lights in the background are the flashing lights you see on the outside of Ion.
Beside us were 2 Japanese girls and they were kind of cute!

The waiter asked them if they wanted Chinese tea (pretty much everyone gets it) and they're like, "We no speak Chinese. Beer? You have beer?"
Found that a little unusual haha. And they're so giggly and excited about everything in the menu!

The staff (largely Chinese-speaking) really struggled trying to understand them when they asked for "chop-euh-stick?", which was actually because Alaric had dropped his and taken theirs before they came...

Old School Delights

Photobucket
Ate at this place near my house the other day because it looked interesting!
The variety isn't that large though, they probably had more desserts than they had of main courses. Yet the dessert menu isn't extensive enough to call it a dessert place so...

The decor is pretty cute though! Plus they actually have Archie comics for you to read so basically I didn't talk to Alaric during the entire meal.

Photobucket
My fish & chips! It was not too bad, but the tartar sauce wasn't the conventional kind (seemed like a coleslaw-hybrid?) so I kind of missed that.

Stuck doing Powerpoint slides for a presentation on Friday... SMU students are probably used to it but I haven't really done any in a while.

I remember when we were younger there would always be one girl in the group that liked "beautifying" the slides - by making certain words different colours, in italics, in bold, underlined, whatever. Whether that actually did look better and didn't make reading the slides 50x worse is another issue.

How have we come to look at animals & our relationship with them in particular ways through tourism?

And let's not forget the highly distracting backgrounds because as students in uniform we have to seize any opportunity to express our "individuality".

I think I kind of miss being younger, when just going down to town after school was exciting.
When things didn't have to be expensive or branded to be worthwhile. When dinner was which Level 4 Far East Plaza "restaurant" to eat at. When public transport was the norm and getting driven was a rare favour from our parents. When shopping wasn't about which bag you had your eye on. When you made new acquaintances easily that you would talk to on MSN till you became friends, or either one of you got bored. When it was okay that plans involved nothing, and people were only an hour late instead of three hours, or never. When something new didn't have to involve being overseas. When plans were never this flimsy and discarded so easily. When basically, everyone wasn't so bored of everything.

Anyway. Just a little melancholic about the time I've missed out on and relationships that are left. And how everyone is here but not really here anymore.

Paint

Thursday, March 17, 2011
Occasionally I feel like tinkering around on Photoshop, so I Google Photoshop tutorials and follow the steps. Some of the stuff people can do is seriously awesome!

Took this random Photobooth photo:
Photobucket

And made this:
Photobucket

There are tutorials to further make the image into line art (like from a photo into comic book characters) but it looked way too complicated.

I can't even remember when I first start playing with Photoshop. I remember in Secondary 3 how we all used Paint to make stuff for our blogskins and we thought they looked so good already haha.

My very first blogskin (back when I was still sophielicious.blogspot.com - omg -) was a collage of Barbie dolls... The next one was on giraffes or kangaroos or something. Yeah I was always cool like that.

Then there was that time we decided all our blogskins should be fruit-themed...

Haha just for kicks you can go check out Sherry's old blogskins HERE. Back when she called herself Sherri hahahahaha.
"hellos.
i dont have much t say about myself.
and i rlly dont kno wht t say.
all im going t say is tt.
i do not do personalized skins.
sec3 is a way too impt yr for me."

Let me admit this: when I was in Primary 3 I thought dolphins were damn cool so I used to sign off as Dolphin instead of Sophie sometimes. Except that I didn't actually know how to spell "dolphin", so I was perpetually signing DOLPIN.
Fml!
