Tokyo (7) - Vlog

Thursday, September 06, 2012
Omg so I'm FINALLY on my last blogpost for Tokyo hahaha.

Today's photos are meh... which is why the vlog we filmed is at the bottom so you have to scroll through everything haha. And yes, this is the first time Alaric is appearing in a blog! *pops champagne*

So anyway what happened was that... we missed our flight.
Yep.

Well it wasn't really drastic & I figure everyone should miss a flight at least once in their lives hahaha.
Had to book a hotel room near the airport to take the next flight (24 hours later)!

Duffy & Shellie May are strapped in this way because we have no space whatsoever in our luggage.

So the next day we had a few hours to kill before our (new) flight!

There are actually quite a lot of interesting areas to visit around the airport (Narita) like temples & even samurai schools O.O O.O but they were too far away :( So we headed to a town nearby for lunch.

So yep this is what suburban Japan looks like. Kinda grey & dreary.
But there are still some nice touches of old Japan left!

Nice house spotted!

Cute cafe!

Brought the couple out for fun haha.

Ok here's our vlog!

Apologies for the usual shitty Photobooth quality.
And this was taken way back in February so uhm... since then I've learnt to smile a bit more hahaha.

Places mentioned in the vlog:

Shibuya - Shopping area, has a guy's mall called Shibuya 109 Men's
Pokemon Centre Tokyo - Located at Daimon, not really worth the visit
Tokyo Disneyland/Disneysea - This is self-explanatory! Prepare a lot of $$$$
Akihabara - Tech/manga/arcade area! Quite fun to visit even if you aren't a fan.

8D7N Tokyo Trip
(minus missed-flight-costs)

Flight: $600+, 6 hours (Delta Airlines)
Hotel: $600+/person (JAL City Shinjuku, highly recommended!)
Expenses: $1000/person (Food, shopping, transport & Disneyland tickets)

Budget Barbie

Saturday, September 01, 2012
I'm on Budget Barbie! :D

Qiuting invited me as her guest for a special Budget Blogger (sounds horrible hahaha) episode!

She suggested going to Bugis Street but I thought that had been a bit overdone because she always goes there, so she said we could go to Tampines instead! Met her for shopping there then headed for filming :)

I can't embed the Clicknetwork video directly here, so click the image above to see it!

Omg my laugh lines (the lines that appear when you laugh...) are SO bad on video O.O
I've started obsessing about them recently...

This is when I was asked to describe my "style" & I said... shorts haha.

Video still of us shopping at Tampines!
I was looking at the sandals, saying I preferred the orange one.

Qiuting said the blue was nicer but I don't trust her because she has this irrational dislike for orange, so her opinion towards orange-coloured things is incredibly unreliable.

Trying on sunglasses we bought for the show!

And here's me showing one of the outfits!
I like this combination here quite a lot actually.

I liked the brown oversized knit cardigan a lot, but the camera still of me wearing it looks a bit like a giant marshmallow hahaha. Go watch to see what I mean!

I was quite *cough* nervous about this at first, so I kept asking Qiuting questions about what I should wear & how made up she was gonna be. I had Alaric stand in front of me with a mirror to see how I would look like cross-legged (to make sure it's not obscene/fattening) hahaha.

But in the end it was pretty easy because I'm doing it with a friend!
Everything you see in the video was filmed only once (no re-takes) so it was basically just us conversing normally, which made it much easier to do! ^_^

And I think I look better on camera not smiling O.O FML
Click HERE to watch it! :)

This is NOT a tutorial ok! So don't scold me for it being useless in terms of imparting makeup techniques! T_T

Makeup:
1) Concealer - The Body Shop (approx $20)
2) Eyeliner - Sephora, Nano (approx $10)
3) Blusher - MAC, Well-Dress Powder Blush (approx $36)

The blusher I'm using in the video is NOT the MAC one, but the MAC one I've recommended is the one I used to use & am currently using again so... yep!

My lips look pretty shiny because I am wearing lip balm!

Photo stills of my completed daily makeup:

LOL I actually took this by accident because the self-timer wasn't turned on.

Honestly hor... I don't find that there's much of a difference between my daily makeup & more dressed-up makeup (+ eyeshadow, mascara & lipstick). In photos I look the same. Not any more special #sadface.
You can make a comparison once I upload the Nuffnang Blog Award photos!

Bangkok Haul Video

Friday, August 12, 2011
Hello! Since some people have been saying that they can't view my photos (it's fine for me, but I have noticed missing/broken pictures on other blogs or blogshops), I thought I'd upload a video!

I actually went to Bangkok at the end of June so... yeah this is pretty overdue.

WARNING: There is quite a bit of background noise )':

P.S. I say "another thing I got" a lot :x

I actually paid 15USD for a new version of iMovie and tried to remove the static, but most of it is still there!

I looked at some older videos (I use my Mac's Photobooth) and they seemed better.
The video is also a little choppy because I recorded it in sections - Photobooth likes to bug out on me and not record the audio, so if it's in parts at least re-recording is easier.

If you're thinking, Why Not Use Your Camera? Well I did! But the amount of noise my camera picked up was even worse!

I think it's because my Mac is quite old (2008) so there's always this "whirring" sound, as if it were running tons of high-intensity programs (which it totally isn't). I've had the cooling fan checked but apparently it's fine :/

Anyway before I get asked,

THE 3 MUST-SHOPT-AT PLACES IN BANGKOK:

1. Platinum Mall
This is your famous wholesale mall, where a lot of local shopkeepers and Singaporean blogshop owners go to for stock.
Normal shoppers can buy items too. If you buy more than 1 item it'll be cheaper, and the good thing is that they can be of different designs!
- You can try haggling if you're buying >1 item

2. Union Mall
This is still quite an unknown gem, as compared to Platinum or Chatuchak.
This mall is kind of like a Thai version of Far East Plaza with lots and lots of little shops in a messy layout.
The basement and 1st floor is mostly food.
The normal clothing shops are the 2nd and 3rd floors while the top floor houses the more eclectic, self-designed pieces by aspiring Thai designers (and are hence more expensive, but worth a look if you want quality and uniqueness).
- Not as much haggling here, but starting prices are usually reasonable and stated on signs

3. Chatuchak (also known as JJ Market)
Only open on weekends!
Crazy, open-air market that sells everything and anything (food, furniture, pets, art...). The clothes section stretches from 14 to 21 if I'm not wrong.
- You can try haggling

Personally I don't like Chatuchak *that* much. The mere thought of the mess and tedious layout already wears me out, but they do have good buys!
For guys, your best bet would be Union Mall and Chatuchak. Platinum Mall has virtually nothing for men.
