Sherry: I got 4 passes for Zouk next week so we can go then.
Sophie: Okay set. But I don't need a pass so you can ask 3 other girls.
Sherry: You got any girl in mind? As in from your side lah.
Sophie: Megan Fox.
Sherry: Mine's Rosie Huntington and Alessandra Ambrosio.
Sophie: Zac Efron.
Sherry: He has a p3nis.
Sophie: Hahaha but he wears makeup!

Went to the Singapore Flyer on Thursday with Alaric (: We thought it closes at 6pm so we went down after school but the actual closing time is 10pm. Quite a shame because I think it would have been nicer at night! Especially with all the lights of the CBD skyscrapers and etc.

The base of the Flyer is actually quite pretty because there's lots of lush landscaping. And not to forget, they have Popeye's! Om nom noms. I only had fries and cup corn because I was having dinner after that (with Qiuting!) but the food is pretty nice!

Anyway, tickets for SMU, NTU and NUS students are ONLY $10 each (: I'm not too sure about SIM and polytechnics, but for $10 it's really quite worth it! (Compared to the original $30 or something?)

I mean if it only costs $10, I totally think everyone should check it out. Honestly the ride was KINDA boring, but we did go on a day when the sky was really overcast (drizzling) so everything looked pretty dreary.
But even if it were $30 I would still go on it cause I mean, it's the Singapore Flyer. It's like, Parisians never having gone to the Eiffel Tower.

Oh btw students from the 3 unis also get like free and subsidized entry to the Singapore museums, so my point is that there's quite a lot of stuff we get free/cheaper, just don't we don't know about it. I hope there's more!

There are tons of other packages available at the Flyer. Like there's one champagne one for S$69. And another where you get a cocktail, as well as corporate packages, solemnization ones and even children's birthdays. I think a Valentine's Dinner on the Flyer would be pretty cool, or on nights with fireworks (NYE), but for everything else it seems like a waste of money.

Oh yes and the ride is 30 minutes long.

And okay this is random, but I was just wondering why some girls become porn stars. (For guys I think they get a pretty good deal out of it so the reason's obvious.) I don't mean girls that do it out of cashflow desperation, but rather those that stay on in it and become "famous" (or infamous); like the girls whose names that about every guy can rattle off like his own address -_-

Like, does that mean they really ENJOY it? (meaning they have the same reasons as the male porn stars already -> I'm assuming this). Or are they still hoping to get discovered by some Hollywood producer? (Since all guys watch porn, it's safe to assume producers do too). Like wasn't Cameron Diaz originally a porn star?

Anyway, how the hell does that even work? Because what they do in porn can barely be even called acting. So it can't possibly be that some producer is busy watching like, Star Whores the Darth Invader (bahahaha I saw this on fuckyeahfunnythings.tumblr) and thinks to himself "OMG that girl has so much potential! With my help, she could get an Oscar like that *snaps fingers*" (he'll have to snap the fingers on his left hand though).

Okay maybe the money is really good. But geez think about your parents! Your future husband! (if any dude besides horny nerds and your fellow porn colleagues will ever want to marry you) Your kids! (if you get STDs) Alright, t'was random thought. (Cause I'm philo-sophie-cal like that ^^) Bye!

regarding the porn stars, i think some women find it empowering for themselves, and maybe they want to dispel societal stereotypes not unlike those you mentioned in your post (ie. guys get a pretty good deal out of it but girls don't, what about their husbands and kids, etc etc).

if you read about annabel chong's life story i think that was partly it (of course the reasons were varied and complicated).

like what you pointed out, there's a difference between those who did it temporarily (ie. earning $$ while waiting to get discovered. i'm guessing that while they shoot pornos on the side they also go for auditions for non-pornos) and those who actually go on to make a name for themselves in the industry.

for the latter, i don't think they particularly worry about what their future husbands might think. i mean why would you even consider dating someone who is vehemently opposed to what you do for a living?

anyway i could go on forever. sorry this got a bit rambly :) i'm quite a feminist and i do hold the point of view that a lot of societal stereotypes against women in various legal sex industries is unnecessarily negative.

    and i'm female btw!

  4. Anonymous: Well regarding the dispelling of societal stereotypes and etc, I find it hard to believe that porn can be about female empowerment because often it features the female "actress" in a rather degrading manner. Unless, well it was femdom genre or something.
I can understand that maybe do they really do enjoy sex as much as men and society at large still finds this unacceptable (like how if a guy sleeps around he's wOaHhh but if a girl does, she's a slut), but I find it hard to fathom that they're willing to do this at the price of showing themselves to the world in that manner :/
And I also think there's quite a difference between your partner not liking what you do, and not liking the fact that you've been screwed by tons and tons of men and have the world seen what only you as a husband should get to. Overall I guess I just can't understand the women that choose to stay in porn!

    Anonymous: Are yours?

Anonymous: You mean the light green/blueish floral romper? (haha yeah it's a romper!) I got it in Bangkok! From Union or Platinum Mall (:

Haha quite funny how everyone always wants to wear what you're wearing (kinda). I shall jump on that bandwagon. Your bag is really pretty! The black one with gold hardware. Is it a bucket bag? Where is it from?(: Thanks :D

Cameron Diaz wasn't a porn star. she did some nude shoots so technically she's a nude model.

in both western and eastern societies where porn industries strive, some porn actresses do enter main stream entertainment after working in porn. and you bet the money is good. several grands in a day's work, with no minimum educational requirements whatsoever. it pays better than being a plastic surgeon.

on an additional note, why don't you wonder about heterosexual guys who enter into the gay-porn industry? having sex with strangers of the opposite gender for money is one thing, doing the same against your own sexual inclination is so another.

  8. Anonymous: Haha yeah I always tend to get bucket bags! I got it from Bangkok :/ I feel so bad when i say Bkk/overseas cause you can't get it haha.

Anonymous: Lol at "it pays better than being a plastic surgeon". Anyway I always assumed guys in gay porn really were gay, and those that engaged in it (like... group sex or something) were just sexually adventurous.

Not the same as the first anon, but I agree with what she said about how some might view it as female empowerment. Not that I agree with the point per se, but I agree that that's the reason why a select few females venture into the industry.

I mean, if you look at it from their point of view, it's like they are saying fuck all of you who think women ought to remain virginal or whatever else you think echoes your idea of feminism. I'm getting out there, I'm gonna fuck whoever I want, whether or not you agree with it and make a hell lot of money at that just because I can and yours isn't the only "correct ideal".

Some feminists would argue - why must there exist such a double standard when it comes to the sexualities of men and women. Who dictates that men who sleep around are studs and women that do the same are slut. I think such porn stars aim to challenge and bend this social misconception by making as bold and as extreme a statement as they can.

Hi Sophie, John Michael Kane here. When we meeting for coffee huh??

Anyway, I thought the following link might help with your pornstar question lol.

  11. Anonymous: I wouldn't think female porn stars do it with female empowerment in mind. It's hardly a worth making this statement as you say, at such a high cost. And I say this not thinking that oh it's degrading to be a female porn actress, but that it's degrading to be EITHER a female or male actor. I would agree that they might feel they don't need to conform to the societal double standards as you said, but I hardly think that that was their main purpose in entering the industry (:

JMK: The only reason I will ever click any link you ever send me is only because this one says YouTube and I know they filter their stuff relatively well. You go ask Hairy.

  12. JMK: I just watched it. Wahlao -> "Stoya is my pornstar name and it's actually a shortened form of my grandmother's name". That is... just... WEIRD.

Don't be too quick to discount what others find empowering. After all, if they see nothing wrong with it then where does the degradation come in?

Anyway, I hardly think this helps with my case, but to understand their psyche better you should YouTube search sasha grey + tyra banks.

Interesting episode on the Tyra Banks show which I otherwise hate. And cringe at how judgmental Tyra was throughout the ep.

It's actually very professional when shooting porn. Esp in big industries like Japan. The porn stars probably think of it as just a job. and a job with a very high salary. Porn stars do get married; some ppl might be able to view the Job as just a job
