Birthday Picnic

Tuesday, August 16, 2011
For my 21st birthday I decided to do an evening picnic followed by getting a table at Zouk (Velvet)! My actual birthday is on the 25th of July, which this year was a Monday.

So on Saturday (23rd) I celebrated with my friends.
On Sunday (24th) I had a family gathering.
On Monday, the day itself, I had dinner with Alaric and after... I can't really remember but I think I might have gone to play DotA. 24th midnight I was playing DotA too. Hahaha #geek.

Anyway I made it evening-ish because my friends aren't the early morning types lol (and neither am I).

I originally wanted to have it at this pavilion that I had used before, where my St Margaret's friends had surprised me with a party! Read it here (gotta scroll down for the pavilion), way back in 2008!
That pavilion was very pretty; located over at the Swan Lake in Botanic Gardens!

But most of my friends drive and I knew they'd get lost (and grumpy) if they had to walk far from the carpark, so I had it over at the quieter side of Botanics.

Looks really pretty from here!

We were over at the Cluny Road side; it's a lot quieter and emptier but it's not as nice as the other parts of Botanic Gardens. The Cluny side has quite a bit of construction work going on still!

This pavillon was very big so I had problems "chope-ing" the whole of it!

I spread out the food and stuff I brought but this bunch of Chinese women were damn buay paiseh and came in after jogging to drink their tea -_- like they literally had these little porcelain cups hahahaha. Thank goodness they left soon after!

Ok a gazillion pictures of me tying my hair (still straggly from being washed not long before):

The lake nearby! You can see the construction work going on in the background lol. We also saw a couple doing their wedding photos! Gosh the bride must have been sweating like crazy.

Some of the food I got! I ordered from Old Chang Kee and Pizza Hut.
Super happy with my Old Chang Kee order! It's good because there's enough variety for everyone.

My birthday cake! :D

Very kindly sponsored by Jessica and Sam from Shiberty's Sweets! Sam has actually been hanging out with Alaric sometimes, coming down to play DotA with some of our other friends (and now me too, since I just started hehe).

So anyway Alaric secretly messaged Sam asking how much a cake for me would cost and they said they'd give it to me as a birthday present! :D

They actually left for Batam the day of my picnic, so they completed this in the morning and called me all the way from Batam to wish me happy birthday! So nice!

Since it was an evening picnic I think Alaric asked if they could do a "garden fairy" kinda thing, so here's the cake with pretty flowers and a Tinkerbell!

And btw... the cake's interior is RAINBOW!

Photobucket
Haha ok frankly I think my pavilion was too big. The two sides are too far apart, and if we all sat on one bench it'd be weird lol.

Starting to look grimy ): It actually wasn't hot thankfully (almost 6pm).

LOL at Addie's face.

I brought battery operated lamps! No clue what's up with Derrick's perverse face haha.

The rainbow interior!

Haha and fondant (edible) Tinkerbell looking forlorn at the side.

Weird furry bug that captured our fascination for a while.

Never seen anything like that before!

Haha I got it to climb unto the leaf and then put it on the grass, so that was the end of our momentary entertainment.

After that I got everyone to go home and nap/shower/whatever and meet me at Zouk at midnight! Kinda disjointed I know, but no other way around it.

Planned my birthday quite last minute because I didn't know what to do ): gosh birthdays can be so stressful pft.

I originally wanted decorations for the pavilion but I didn't have time and anyway it would have been quite a waste I think! But if the Swan Lake pavilion (see 2008 post) with its wrought-iron columns were decorated I think it would really look gorgeous!

Oh here are some tips if you're planning to do a picnic at Botanics:
1. Consider the time + location, it can get really crowded! Avoid the main stage area.
2. There are ants ON the benches ): I forgot to bring a cloth so I put all my food on the plastic bags.
3. Mosquito repellant/spray.

There was this young couple with an insanely cute and tiny puppy! They were so clearly showing it off but the poor thing was visibly exhausted. They were literally dragging it on its leash while they walked ahead, never turning around to look. PUPPIES GET TIRED VERY EASILY.
What assholes. After walking past once, they came back 30mins later (told you they were showing off) and this time they made the puppy run past us?! Super wtf. Thank goodness they finally picked it up and carried it. Geez.

Ok now I'm all grouchy haha. But anyway good luck to whoever has their birthdays soon!
