Genting

Thursday, October 06, 2011
Went up to Genting again for the 3rd time this year! LOL and it's still only September... Anyway Alaric and I took a coach up and spent 3D2N there!

Coach: Five Stars
Hotel: Awana Genting Highlands

The coach we took this time was super nice! (Took a coach up once previously, and drove up another time) It's double-decker and the seats are very spacious and comfortable!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Look at the amount of leg room! I can't even touch the seat in front of me, and I dare say that at 1.73m I probably have longer legs than most of you LOL.

Photobucket
This is with the seat almost fully reclined. It can go back a little further.

Photobucket
And it's like taking a plane; they have movies and games for you to play!

Our coach towards Genting was an early morning one with departure being at 6.30am so we basically slept the whole way up. But on the way back I watched movies.

Photobucket
Hi. That's me with glasses.

Our hotel room:
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
2 Queen-sized beds! Suitable for families or groups of friends I guess? That means you can share the price of the room between 4 people!

Photobucket
We even have a balcony!

Awana Genting Highlands is actually a resort (primarily for golf, but also has other activities like nature walks, archery... etc) so it's situated lower down the mountain where there's more land and it's quite a lot warmer.
Suits me fine because I prefer warm weather haha.

Don't underestimate the Genting peak itself! That's when you can unearth all your autumn/winter wear! The first time I went this year I packed crop tops and shorts -_- wanted to die hahahaha.

Landscaping at Awana.

Photobucket
They have a pool and it's warm enough to swim!
(Definitely not warm enough at the Genting peak itself)

So after reaching our hotel (our coach dropped us at the main road and we just had to walk into Awana) we rested a while and then went to the:

Outdoor Amusement Park
Photobucket
One of my favourite rides (of all time, across all theme parks)! It's kind of kiddy but I love the feeling of the wind and "flying" off the ground. Alaric hates it hahaha.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Waiting for a ride!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
It can get chilly so bring your buy-but-never-got-to-use sweaters and what not!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Wah the mist complements the sign quite well. Really looks like it could be from Jurassic Park or something. And a T-Rex might pop out anytime.

Photobucket
Took this! Liked it the most out of all the rides at the park!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Ascend and disappear into the mist... *cue scary music*
This ride has upside down parts! I really like rollercoasters, I don't like the ride that just brings you to the top and drops you vertically down :S feels horrid. Genting has that though if you're into that kind of thing!

Photobucket
Go-karts!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Lots of game stalls.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Alaric insisting that he can catch me a prize (we played the exact same game the previous time we came). Think he paid for 3 tries in total?

Photobucket
OMG! He won me this giant teddy bear!
.
.
.
Kidding.

Photobucket
Hahahahaha got this instead. Ok lah it's quite cute what... it's not very big but still!

Went back into Genting!

Photobucket
There's a video game park too, with lots and lots of games. The previous time we spent ages playing the fishing game!

Photobucket
A close-up of a type of toy you can win. I have the blue giraffe from the previous visit haha.

Went for dinner at The Olive! It's a pretty expensive restaurant but the food is good!

Photobucket

Photobucket
An amuse-bouche by the chef.
If I recall correctly this was crab meat (I think?) on a small cherry tomato, topped with roe.

Photobucket
Mushroom soup (some kinda special mushroom lah but I suck at food so I can't remember) with truffle cream! I love mushroom soup btw.

And I also suck at food photos lol.

Photobucket
My apple juice (I also love apples and green apple juice) and the insanely heavy flower vase behind.

Photobucket
Pan-fried foie gras on a crispy wafer with duck meat and jam!

Photobucket
Haha Alaric picking which steak knife to use.

Photobucket
My scallop pasta! I really like scallops so this was good, but I personally don't like thin pasta (angelhair, as pictured). But ok it's just the pasta SHAPE; technically the taste is the same.

Photobucket
Alaric's special steak knife.

Photobucket
His wagyu steak on mashed potatoes!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Chocolate lava cake! I really liked this! I think it might be my favourite dish out of all haha.

And HEY! LOOK WHO CAME HERE:
Photobucket
HAHAHAHA THE BLACK EYED PEAS.

Ok after dinner we went to the Indoor Theme Park since we had the 1-day All Pass ticket (for both indoor + outdoor), and the indoor theme park closes at 1am so there's time!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Did my shoulder massage and fish spa here previously!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
The 4D ride/show! The previous time we came we watched a story about a cat in a haunted house. This time it was through the eyes of a burglar in a museum.

Photobucket
Went on this as well! This is the most exciting ride out of the indoor ones (go up the stairs that's beside the 4D ride).

Photobucket
WOOSH.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Hehe going through the buildings/shops.

Photobucket

Before we went back to the hotel we decided to buy some pizza for later from Pizza Factory, which is near the cable car station.

Photobucket
Their pizza is actually pretty good! We got some special combo that came with chicken wings as well.

Photobucket
Taking the cable car back! As I said previously, Awana is located further down the mountain so you can take either the (shuttle) or the (cablecar + shuttle) to get to/from Awana and Genting.

So at the cablecar station we took a shuttle that takes us back to Awana.

NEXT DAY:
Photobucket
This is the view from our window, where you can see the golf courses.

Photobucket
Frizzy hair right after blow-drying.

Photobucket

♥ Went to the STRAWBERRY FARM! ♥
For us we can take a shuttle from the hotel. If you're staying in Genting peak itself, you need to take a cable car down and then you can arrange to be picked up and taken to the farm (which is nearby).

Photobucket
The buggy is so cute!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Pickin' strawberriez. Observe my expertise and intense concentration.

Photobucket

Photobucket
No strawberry can escape the cunning strawberry picker (me)!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Can't remember what I was scowling at. Possibly potential rival strawberry pickers. Alaric likes to claim I look like this all the time.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
STRAWBERRY FER YOU? (very sweet; we ate them all that night back at the hotel)

Photobucket

Photobucket
Um.

Photobucket

Photobucket
The strawberry cafe with the super cute seats!

Photobucket
There's LOTS of strawberry-themed food, like uh... strawberry chicken wings hahaha. Anyway we got nuggets (heart-shaped!), a chocolate waffle and strawberry chocolate fondue!

Photobucket
Eh the umbrellas are really very cute :(

Photobucket
Strawberry seal? Hahahaha.

Photobucket

Took the cable car back up to Genting! Genting's cable car is the longest in Southeast Asia; the ride is really quite long! You can spot lots of monkeys!

Photobucket

Had buffet dinner at Coffee Terrace, which as far as I can tell only does buffets (they even have a supper buffet). The place is really big!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Yes these are my desserts. I'm actually more of a fruit person than a cake/ice-cream/chocolate/sweets person, but I did like the thingys (no clue what they're called) in the cups.

Photobucket
In front of Coffee Terrace!

Back to the main Genting area again:
Photobucket
LOL at the googly-eyed Statue of Liberty (there's another one of her riding a motorbike).

Photobucket
Wanted to watch Johnny English but the seats were sold out! :( We tried to buy them 1 hour before the show, so if you wanna catch a movie you might want to buy tickets earlier!

Headed to SnowWorld instead!

Photobucket

Photobucket
They provide you with coats, gloves and shoes (unless you're wearing sneakers). I somehow expect pants too hahaha FML so I actually went into the -8°C in my dress!

It was actually ok leh. I mean I was kinda cold (hey my legs are bared and I had no socks on either) but I still went tubing and stuff! No cameras allowed inside so no pictures.

Photobucket
Bought food AGAIN before heading back to the hotel hahahaha. This time we went to a bakery, which ironically enough (lol) is called Bakery. I went mad and bought 4 buns/sandwiches. They're not like small buns you know, they're like quiches and turkey sandwiches! But I finished my *cough* 3 while Alaric ate his 1 quiche.

Awana has free wifi so we basically spent our time at night playing Sims Social haha.

LAST DAY:
Photobucket
Back to glasses for the coach ride back! Spot the mouse-thing we won the first day at the amusement park! We brought it back and now it's sitting somewhere in my room.

For lunch we ate at our hotel, where I had mushroom soup (again) and Alaric had nuggets (again). The coach picked us up from the roadside again, but we were lazy to walk so we asked the concierge to send us out LOL.

Coach ride back was uneventful (same coach)... I watched 2012 (again), and I cried (again). Stocked up on gum to bring back to Singapore too :D

If you want to know prices, hour... etc at Genting, please visit www.rwgenting.com (instead of asking me hahaha) because I mean, prices will differ based on your travel period and blah blah.

For the coach, Five Stars is good :D They're very organised, once you "check-in" (whatever the coach equivalent is), they give you all the info printed/written neatly for you for your return trip and tell you where to go etc.

Ok final point: dress warmly if you're going to Genting!

  7. Arrow: Haha it's good for a quick getaway! I'm not really into the cold weather though lol.

Anonymous: Well it's like saying person A and person B both went to visit the Eiffel Tower (but person A went first) and then trying to draw some kind of meaning from that. There's a reason why certain places in a city are tourist attractions, and hence why tourists go there.

  20. Anonymous: Food at The Olive... depends what you order! Like my scallop pasta was... maybe $30+? The foie gras and steak were expensive, like $50-$70 (depends which cut of steak etc).

    Anonymous: Swatch

Anonymous: You can walk there, it's located at another hotel. Ask information counters or staff to point you towards it. It's like at the more "atas" hotel side haha.
