Chinatown Flea

Had a stall at a flea held at Chinatown recently courtesy of the organisers (: I know fleas aren't real money-making (or even money-recovering, since you sell stuff at 80% of the original price) affairs but taking pictures, packing items into envelopes and mailing stuff out is such a chore! Not to mention the headache of pending/disappearing buyers and the mess with postage.

Anyway I did manage to clear most of my items!
I sold 2 bags, so that was my largest sale I guess (both priced at $15 and bargained down to $12) hahaha.

I'm very weak with people who bargain, seriously! And I think I'm quite weak at bargaining too haha.
For example I told this girl she could have 4 items for $13 and in the end she took 3 dresses for $10 (which was already after a bargain) and asked if she could have the 4th item for free, and I said ok. Fail lol.

Anyway I sold most of my stuff for $5 each, and made about $150! I heard some stalls made a few hundred too, so guess the crowd was pretty good that day!

I told Alaric I needed to get a rack for the flea and he said Ikea definitely would have one. So we took a train + bus down on the day before the flea and....

The rack was not at all like what I wanted. The lightest one at Ikea was still designated more for long-term hanging at home... It was made of metal and required screwing! I was so frustrated but it was already 8pm so I had no choice.

But anyway it was only $17.80 so price wasn't so much the issue, but I was really grouchy about having to carry that and my luggage (Chinatown isn't THAT accessible if you have a luggage). Thank goodness Qiuting arrived at the same time as me so she helped me with my stuff up the stairs (yes, stairs) and Miyake and Eric helped me with the assembly!

Anyway I totally spoilt the market for her because she was selling her stuff at $40 per piece (each of her items are unworn vintage, with only one such piece) while at my end... it's $5 per piece haha.


Clicknetwork did a special Budget Barbie episode at the flea, so that's Qiuting being filmed talking about her purchases!

She's actually sitting where my original booth was meant to be, but I moved so that I would be with Geck Geck and the rest!

Anyway the prices at the flea were pretty low that day, so she actually got 33 items for $100! :o (she even bargained a $5 romper from me down to $4 -_-)

Final group shot! Yutakis mad extra, he's so freaking tall already (1.89m) and he stood on a chair. Haha now it looks like a pyramid.

Thankfully the weather was good that day! It perpetually looked like it was going to rain but it didn't, and there was no sun either! I still managed to get lightly sunburnt though...

Hehe guess I don't mind doing another flea sometime (if I have new stuff to sell off), it's quite a fun way to pass time if you have friends with you!

Alaric: "They're having a meeting about why you only sleep holding one of them all the time" (I only sleep with the biggest furry Stitch because it's so cuddly!)

Haha so cute!

Ok my flight is at 4.05pm and it's 2.28pm, gotta run! I'm bringing my laptop to Bangkok btw! :D

Qiuting's Picnic

Clicknetwork did a special episode for Budget Barbie centered around Qiuting's birthday, which involved her being filmed saying where she got the items for the picnic, and for how much etc. Originally we were each supposed to pretend we got an item (e.g. picnic mat) cheaply and explain where/how etc, but thank goodness the budget pro took over haha.

So anyway for the filming we went down to Marina Barrage which is a really popular kite-flying spot. I've never been up on the top where the kite-flying happens but... I don't really care because there's no shade at all up there or something! It was a really sunny and hot day, if we had gone up I think we'd be sunburnt now.


So this was... in the carpark haha. With big and nice shady trees! Realistically, that's where picnics are held no? (under trees I mean, not in carparks)

Geck Geck and I!




All the picnic food! Everything that is actually cooked (fishballs, egg-mayo mix, sandwiches etc) was prepared by Qiuting's friend Matthias! Qiuting only prepared the um... uncooked food (grapes, strawberries, crackers). For her own picnic. For her picnic, Matthias got up early and cooked food for it. Girls, hurry! Boys like this must faster chope!!!

This picture of Qiuting is so nice! Except that the background is an ugly construction site haha. Her hair took her over an hour to curl... madness. I would never have the patience to get up an hour early just to curl my hair.


Hahaha Qiuting photoshopped my nose sharper and now I kinda look like a mouse.


Both Jessica and I had the idea to bring bubble blowers! :D Mine is a mega huge one that Alaric bought back for me from Malaccca.
Couldn't open our eyes because the sun was just way too bright!

Hahaha originally Qiuting was supposed to have an outfit change... VAIN OR WHAT. But in the end we scrapped that part of the plan because it was far too hot to do anything other than sit under the tree and eat. And swat away flies/ants.

P.S. I've gotten questions about this already - my dress is from Bangkok.

And guess what?

I'm going to Bangkok on Wednesday! :D Alaric and I bought the coupon deal for Bangkok ages ago. We had planned to go earlier but I had Qiuting's picnic and he had *cough* SC2 *cough* priorities, so we had to push it back.

We had wanted to leave on Thursday instead but there were no seats available. Anyway we'll be back on Sunday! It was originally a 4D3N trip but we extended it by one night because the flight hours are such that the day we arrive is burnt (touchdown 6+pm) and the day we leave is also burnt (departure 11+am).

That reminds me -
Called my dad on Sunday to wish him Happy Father's Day and for those who may not know, we have always conversed in French.

Sophie: "My French is really rusty. I was seriously struggling to explain to him the concept of coupon deals".
Alaric: "Yeah I know. I didn't play SC2 for a day and now I'm rusty".
Sophie: *-_-* "There is no basis of comparison here. I haven't spoken French in a month".

Pretty

Here are just some of the pretty images I have saved in my laptop. There were originally more posted (and more in my folders obviously) but the obvious size difference between all of them annoyed me tremendously! (That is also why this blog post is done entirely aligned in the center because I figure it looks more acceptable this way).

Please do not ask me where I got them from because I do not actively follow any Tumblrs or search for these; in fact I have not added to my "collection" since like... 6 months ago?

I used this as my Blackberry background for a long time! I love the colours/effect in this.

I'm sorry I have to point it out... I just noticed that "disappointed" is spelt wrongly. I'm sure Mark Twain knew how to spell that!

Candy

When Alaric saw the photo he was like, "why aren't you wearing any pants?!" (taken in the privacy of my own room; I just bought a tripod for my camera!)
I didn't expect that it'd be so short on me, I definitely have to wear this with leggings or something haha. I'm also not usually the "type" (whatever that means) to wear cutesy cartoon prints, but I liked this!

If you follow me on Twitter (why aren't you?!), you'd have seen my tweet saying I have a stye! I don't know if it's obvious in the Daisy picture above but if I looked closely at myself I could see one eye being smaller than the other due to my double eyelid being swollen.

Anyway myths about peeking at boys or whatever aside, styes are actually caused by the inflammation of an eyelash! The last time this happened to me (2007), I managed to identify the eyelash (base looks different, is also at the center of the swell) and plucked it out. I also proceeded to squeeze pus out and it was a really, really painful process!

Why I bothered was because the stye developed on the morning of a shoot. Suay max:

Can you see that my left (meaning the right of the picture) eye looks weird? The eye doesn't slope/curve normally; it's sudden and straight because the eyelid was swollen at that part.

Anyway if you happen to develop a stye, you CAN try plucking out the eyelash. But obviously... you might not find the right one! Your best bet is to just put ice over the swell (it helps!) and keep your eye area especially clean (avoid makeup obviously, although actually I've never found it to become worse with makeup).

Anyway I have a camera so I never cared to take photos with my Blackberry or iTouch. And mine's just an iTouch (not iPhone) so... I cannot really be bothered to take and edit the photos because I'd have to transfer them over/connect to my house wireless.

Ok debating whether to go out and buy brownie mix now to ~attempt~ brownies again since my previous batch failed miserably (IKR, I'm not even making them from scratch haha).
