Outfits Of The Week

Tuesday, February 22, 2011
Doing a quick post with some outfit photos because I have too many of these lying around! Haha don't expect indie-looking or soft, glowy photos.

Photobucket

Photobucket
I always get asked about the silver spiral ring - it's from Marc By Marc Jacobs in London.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Black maxi, bought it from Primark (mad awesome megastore) in London! And ok I know the cats shouldn't be part of an outfit post but I just saw them peeking out the grill at everything that went past (e.g. me) and thought it was cute!

Photobucket
This photo was taken outside the Cineleisure lift (carpark level), if you guys can recognise it!

Photobucket
Decided to try using a Chanel eyeshadow palette I got recently as a gift. Such a shame to wipe away the CCs. The colour goes on the eyelids well but it's not very dark so I'd say it's better as an eyeshadow base or for blending into the skin tone.

Photobucket
Random picture of my friend's dog enjoying life on the couch. You can't really see it in this photo but his balcony actually overlooks unto Cineleisure!

Oh yay gonna go get McDonald's. And I'm on my one-week school break now by the way! ~wheeeee~

My Home

Saturday, February 19, 2011
... in Sims 3.

I'm really particular about symmetry when building my homes in Sims 3. I also almost never build second or third floors cause I hate having to move up and down to see what my Sims are doing!

I'm the kind of player that seeks achieved lives for my Sims. None of them are allowed to wreak havoc and all excel at school/work. I never create Sims based on real-life people cause I just find that... weird.

Photobucket
Perfect symmetry of my pool+fountain!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Mini-fountain inside the house too cause I like water features.

Photobucket
But to be honest the interior of the house doesn't interest me much. I prefer working on the exterior!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Everything here is painstakingly landscaped, down to the small hills/irregularities in terrain and even the colour of the "cliffs" on the left.

After seeing the final result Alaric has grudgingly admitted that I should design our home in the future (or I like to believe he thinks so).

So anyway if one day you drive around Singapore and happen to see a home that looks like this... it means the person read my blog and copied me.

Goodbye!

Night snaps

Just some other quick updates:
Photobucket
Bought this top from a blogshop like a year ago and finally unearthed it to wear. Alaric's hand is covering the cute bow that's at the back  >:(

Photobucket
From the front... I don't know whether it looks dapper or more like the servant penguins in Mary Poppins.

Photobucket
My friend had a farewell party the other day because he's leaving for Australia soon. His parents had ordered catering, and it's like... the most atas one I've ever seen.
The caterers actually come round to the tables and refill your drink glasses and change your plates! Like omg haha :o

Photobucket
Gorgeous cupcakes and plus they're yummy! Most other nice cupcakes I've seen tend to compensate for a bland taste with cute designs, but these are lovely and super yummy! And obviously also quite pricey.

AND IF YOU THOUGHT (like I did) THAT THE NEW SINGAPORE DOLLAR NOTES ARE INDESTRUCTIBLE, think again:
Photobucket
While the new plastic notes are virtually impossible to tear, it seems there are a few fault lines on it. My friend just crinkled it a little forcefully and it split!

Photobucket
He was demonstrating how he did the "crinkling" and... he tore another note. But it was actually just a tiny tear at the top. I didn't believe the rest would tear because it's like, indestructible.
Full of confidence I proceeded to try tearing it further, and it split with almost zero strength on my part.

Hahaha I offered to pay him for the second $10 note I had destroyed but he wanted to keep them as souvenirs. So guys... don't try tearing the notes.

Chinese New Year

Monday, February 14, 2011
Contrary to popular belief... I celebrate Chinese New Year. I am HALF Chinese after all, and my mom's the youngest of a brood of 7 children so... it can pretty much cover the lack of the other half of my heritage!

Reunion Dinner:
Photobucket
Bigass photo of me looking amiable :D to start this post!
This is also me with pink lipgloss (MAC Dazzleglass) which is pretty useful in adding colour to my face, but I get annoyed with the stickiness of lipglosses... Plus it's not as if you don't just end up eating all of it 5 minutes into a meal.

Photobucket
Fringe up because I didn't wash my hair. What's new! Omg my forehead is so massive I think you can write like 20 Bible verses on it.

Photobucket
Khaki toga dress for reunion dinner!

Photobucket
Dark hair roots growing out ):

Photobucket
My newest nephew! So cute chubby cheeks.

Anyway for reunion dinner my mom and I spend it with my oldest uncle (and his family, so that means two of my cousins) and my grandmother. My two cousins have 2 dogs each so this meant there were 4 dogs at reunion dinner! Furry party.

Photobucket

Photobucket
It's a mongrel but look! It's still so good-looking! But it's quite unfriendly to strangers ): it was rescued from a temple so we figure it might have been mistreated.

Photobucket
My mom asked me to pretend to be a car model with my cousin's new car... Ok I have no idea what car models do haha I'm pretty sure I can't put my foot on the car actually.

Photobucket

Photobucket
More dogs.

Photobucket
Chubby cheeks!

Photobucket
Another dog. Super stoned haha.

Photobucket
Fourth dog! This one is named Four; named so because it was rescued from a puppy mill in April and is estimated to be 4 years old. But everyone thinks it would have been a lot smarter to have named it April instead of Four hahaha.

Photobucket
Crazily friendly and enthusiastic despite having been mistreated previously. Dogs really have such big hearts )':

Photobucket

Photobucket
Haha my nephew's a blur of lightning speed.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Hahaha all the kaypoh dogs.

Chinese New Year Day 1:
Photobucket
Cute, but doesn't smile much sadly!

Photobucket
Haha dancing to Sesame Street.

Photobucket
The main reason people take pictures of kids and dogs is because 1) they're a lot cuter than the adults obviously and 2) they won't judge you haha.

Photobucket
Was wearing pupil enlarger contact lens that day (in grey)! I couldn't care less about making my pupils bigger but I got like 8 months worth of coloured contact lens (in my degree) from a shoot I did (for an optical shop) so I figured I'd just use some. Will blog about the shoot soon!

Anyway I don't really like coloured lenses ): I have astigmatism too and coloured lenses only help your myopia so it ends up quite blurry for me ): Like I have problems seeing road signs and stuff.
LOL would anyone happen to have 575 degrees myopia and want coloured lenses?

Photobucket

Photobucket
Angbaos! I don't collect a lot of money, but it's alright considering I only have half the "stock" of relatives to collect from haha. Anyway the lowest angbao I've ever gotten is... 2 Ringgit. Which translates to like S$0.80 hahahaha.
And that's the nail polish colour from Rubi. The colour is actually quite nice in real life but the consistency sucks.

Chinese New Year Day 2
My mom had an open house for her friends at our place. Best place to be cause obviously everyone there is (old)(hahaha) and I'm the only one eligible to receive angbaos! :D But okay kidding I left pretty early to go to Alaric's friend's house for steamboat!

Photobucket
Chow chow! It's called Lei Lei cause apparently Lei is dialect for Chow (don't ask me which dialect).

Photobucket
Here the grey colour of my lenses are pretty obvious!

Photobucket
Haha so cute and furry! This is Lei Lei at like, 5 months old. It's so big already!

Chinese New Year Day 3
Went to my cousin's house for dinner then another one of Alaric's friend's houses. Haha his friends seem quite enthusiastic about these gatherings.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Pretty cat I saw at the lift lobby! I couldn't capture her beautiful blue eyes ): I hope she wasn't a lost cat cause she's definitely not a stray one.

Chinese New Year was quite uneventful this year. Every year the gatherings seem to get smaller and smaller. There isn't even gambling in my family anymore; everyone just sits around and gossips.
I remember when I was 9 the adults (there are no kids my age in my family) would let me play Blackjack with them although I bet with... peanuts or something hahaha.

Half my family thinks I'm still taking O/A-Levels and the other half thinks I'm working already... Little nephews and nieces are growing up fast. Creepy...

This post has way more photos of animals than anything else haha. Happy Valentine's Day/Friendship Day (whoever thought of this first didn't have a date) everyone!

blogosphere

Friday, February 11, 2011
I've been blogging for a good 5 years at least. I only started doing paid advertorials and actually seeing any monetary benefit in having a blog very, very recently. So for the bulk of my time, I've been blogging because I enjoy it. I like almost everything about blogs: the writing, the photos, even the HTML. Essentially my blog is for me. It's one of my most prized possessions and having people take an interest in my blog was a surprising and flattering side effect, but it was never my intention; nor could it have been.

You know how most people tend to look down on blogs though? There's always that thing about: Why do you want to tell the whole world about your life? They think you're attention-seeking, they blame you if someone finds out something about them - even if you had nothing to do with it - just because you have a blog that's public. It's not "cool" to have a public blog. What's cool is to have a locked Livejournal or cryptic Tumblr.
Online, I'm quite proud of my blog. Offline, I have to feel embarrassed about it.

But lately I'm sure everyone has realised how having a blog can have many benefits. Some bloggers really can obtain large financial gains as well as sponsorships and at the same time, there's the "fame" element - having people care about who you are, what you do and what you say.

So what you're starting to get are people who have a renewed interest in having a blog. Whatever.

Ever so often I get a "question" on Formspring about so-and-so girl; with her blog URL included. Sometimes I post it, sometimes I don't. Well from now on, I NEVER WILL EVER AGAIN.

Sometimes the way it happens is just WAY TOO COINCIDENTAL. Tell me, why would there be people out there who are so keen so share your blog? Who are you, that people would go through the trouble of recommending your blog or supposedly trying to search for it?

You are not... Fann Wong. A.k.a someone that everyone already knows of and is curious to know more about. If there was a possibility of Fann Wong having a blog, of course people would want to find it. But you? YOU ARE NOBODY.

If someone recommended Xiaxue's blog, or even any of your other smaller bloggers, it wouldn't be particularly questionable. But you're telling me that out of the... maybe 20 readers you have now, some of them love your blog so much that they would put in the effort to go around to multiple Formsprings/blogs/forums to rave about how awesome your blog is?

Trying so hard to spread your blog URL is not really wrong or anything. I sound like a petty blogger. What makes me different from any other blogger? Maybe... they really want to share their words and writing.

But then... WHY is there a "contact xxx@gmail.com for advertorials" on the side of every one of these blogs? Some, a mere few weeks after the blog was started. WHY is there a "looking for xxx sponsorship"? I thought you just wanted to share your thoughts?

So basically... why do you have a blog? Before this, blogs were lame and attention-seeking. Okay maybe they're still attention-seeking, but now they're also worthwhile. So what are the intentions behind all these new blogs?

Some are a little more subtle with their attempts. You see it on Twitter; the people/things they Retweet, how they praise famous bloggers all the time, the name/@- dropping... You see it more blatantly and deviously when they leave anonymous comments asking about the most unrelated of topics (with key Googleable words or the URLs themselves) - that hopefully would lead to traffic driven to their site (this applies to blogshops too).

Pretty often I get questions/comments like, "should I buy xxx item from xxx.livejournal.com?" (always a new blogshop) or "xxx (insert URL here) looks like you!" Really meh... if that's the case then it seems like I have so many doppelgangers in Singapore alone.

Basically most of the old blogs around now... none of us ever had the intention of eventually getting paid advertorials and stuff like that. I mean back in those days advertorials didn't even exist. Over time, more and more people started reading our blogs. Surprising and unexpected, but nice. Now it seems like some actively pursue increased readership for...? Wouldn't it have something to do with the requests for advertorials and sponsorships?

Sure go ahead and be all gung-ho about your blog. It means more blogs for me to read anyway. But geez, I've been blogging for 5 years and many others for a few years too. Patience. And please, stop using existing blogs to propel your own, just because now blogs are some kind of "good" investment. No reason why I should use space on my Formspring because YOU want a nail/hair/whatever sponsor asap.

Now... cute pictures of my hamster Hamlet! (I still feel I hit jackpot with this name - so cute to put Shakespeare on a hamster and it's still so apt because there's HAM in it, like HAMster!)

Photobucket
Super curious! I think this is my favourite hamster out of the last like... 5 or 6 I've had. I remember the days when I used to refer to my hamster as my boyfriend (cause obviously back then I didn't have one).

And no it's not that I don't feed Hamlet. She likes to take all her food out of the food bowl and fill it with the grey pellets instead. I swear, till now I have NO idea what she does with the food.

Photobucket
Polka dots on the last two nails are super smeared; they became like that after I applied OPI's RapiDry over it so obviously I decided not to put top coat over the others.

Photobucket
Viciously attacking a toilet roll! She actually FULLY tore apart one entire toilet roll prior to this! The whole thing disappeared and are now seen as little cardboard bits all over her cage.

Photobucket
Bye!
