Had to wake up at 8.45am *stabs self* to go to USS! The theme park is open from 10am with last entry at 7pm. We went on Thursday so it was a weekday rate; tickets booked online so there was some kind of promotion and we paid $52 each.
Alaric's friend works at the USS so he got all 9 of us Express Passes! Off-peak it costs $30 and if you can afford it, you should definitely get it. Queues can be pretty long except in the late afternoon where it gets quite short. If you don't have the Express Pass you might have some difficulty covering all the good rides.
Very very hot and sunny day... but I guess it would have been even worse if it rained! Applied a little bit of sunblock so I only got minimally sunburnt.
Hehe cute uncle! Actually USS staff are largely either teens or uncles/aunties.
The ship from Madagascar! (my first thought was actually Titanic haha).
Gingerbreadman cookie! Btw the food at USS sucks... we had this fried chicken for lunch and it was horrid! The hot dogs were still ok. They sell turkey legs at this stall in Far Far Away Land which sells out quite fast so if you want it gotta hurry!
Didn't catch the shows so don't know how it's like!
Hats outside for you to try on and take pictures with (not for sale) but it's really gross if you think about how everyone there is crazy sweaty and trying on the same hats haha.
This... is supposed to be Betty Boop. I think it's quite fail... really very unrecognisable.
THE MAIN ATTRACTION OF USS: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
There are two rides, the Human (red) and Cylon (blue).
You should go on the Human one first because it's a little more mild than the Cylon, but both are epic! You'll come off the ride like :O seriously! Think I practically drooled on the ride hahaha because I was just :O the whole way.
We took each one twice and I can safely say it's the best theme park rides I have EVER taken! Really pleasantly surprised! The queues are also quite manageable because the turnover is pretty large and efficient (compared to rides that e.g. only involve 2 or 4 people per run).
MUST TAKE! Worth paying $52 just to try these two!
But yeah the story behind the Battlestar Galatica (it's Universal Studios remember? All based on shows) looks really lame haha.
The Mummy ride! Fully air-conditioned; took this twice too. A pretty good ride as well! Just that the end of it is a little anti-climatic.
Alaric trying to compete with Mr Muscle on the right haha.
Some kiddy cart ride. Didn't bother with this.
The Shrek 4D attraction is inside here. Sucked... Both this and the Madagascar ride seem to only aim to re-tell the whole bloody movie -_-
Princess Fiona ears! $16.90
Puss in Boots! We saw very very few mascots... We only saw the above kitty (and they stay out for a very short time only; twice the staff escorting the mascots said end of shift), Woody Woodpecker, Charlie Chaplin, the Egyptians outside the Mummy ride and the lousy Betty Boop.
Like the mascot we saw the most and seemed to always be there was Woody Woodpecker but like -_- ok no one cares about him haha. It's sad that Universal Studio's characters are all so un-cute and un-cuddly! Like at souvenir shops there is literally nothing appealing to buy!
Haha he wanted to sit on the annoying old granny.
Mine was very high up!
They print every single photo taken at the statues (they have 2 photographers stationed there) to offer to you for sale -> massive waste of paper.
One of Alaric's friends bought a photo which is why I could even take a shot of it! One picture costs $12 btw...
And if you're wondering why we're doing the above poses; it's because the photographer asked us to!
The Waterworld show:
It's really famous and popular, based on that old movie Waterworld with Kevin Costner!
Almost all the actors were Caucasians (yes I know the above guy isn't haha), and they really really know how to interact and please the crowd! Like without these actors the show would be nothing!
Anyway the actors are all really good at what they do! They jump into the water from like the top "level" and the area they have is so tiny! It's like if they make a slight miscalculation they could hit something on the way down and die.
Bahahaha Kevin Costner, Y U SO YOUNG SUDDENLY?
Pretty cool right?
This is the only stuff we bought! (Alaric bought me the penguin) Like erm.. what character is the penguin even? And yum Reese's! (at a shop just outside USS) I don't think you can find it anywhere else in Singapore!
Oh yes many of the rides (like all the high-speed kinds) don't allow ANY bags/loose belongings at all. As in, you can't even put it at the side before getting on the ride. You have to place your stuff in lockers (free for the first 30minutes) and have basically nothing on you once you enter the queue.
Forgot to mention that we didn't get to sit on the wet/splash ride at all (inside Jurassic Park) *cry* )': it malfunctioned just as we got there, and by 6.30pm we figured it would be pointless to go back to check if it was ready, but someone on Twitter told me it actually reopened!
Omg I was so sad )': really wanted to go on it! But I guess getting soaked at 6.30pm isn't much fun either sigh...
P.S. If anyone's interested to work at USS, I think the basic pay is $6.50/hr! They have different divisions e.g. retail, FnB, attractions (like manning the rides, mascots etc) and the pay for each will differ. It looks quite fun if you don't mind traveling to/stay near VivoCity anyway!

Anonymous: Oh haha thanks! Changed it! The Lost World is Jurassic Park right??? Must have mixed it up lol.
hey babe, you didn't miss much! the jurassic park water ride was mehhh. Not the least bit thrilling, much less exciting at all. Just thought i shld tell you cos I know how it feels to walk out of a themepark knowing you missed a few good rides/shows cos I MISSED THE WATERWORD SHOW when i was there in March and im still sore about it today! :(((
ReplyDeleteI loved the Water Ride! Always liked this kinda things. But the queue was freaking long when I went so you may not get to ride if you queued up at 630. The timing things they put outside are deceiving.
ReplyDeleteYou can get Reese's almost anywhere in SG! Cocoa Tree outlets and the Hershey's store along City Link has it! :D I looove Reese's so much so I hunted down all avenues! V^.^V
